A failed GM cotton crop prompts farmer suicides in India. GM pigs are born with ghastly mutations in the US. Wind borne GM canola threatens farms in Canada, forcing one farmer to the Supreme Count. A Company breeds giant GM salmon, despite its threat to natural fish populations. Alarming findings convince a scientist that GMOs may lead to a catastrophe. And corporations deceive the public, while trying to patent and control the food supply. By Bertram Verhaag and Gabriele Krober. (60 minutes)

]]>Our theme this year is - "Farm, Field, Kitchen, Hearth"! We want to honor the agricultural and pastoral traditions of El Rito and the Chama River watershed. Water; land; the tending of animals and crops; the growing, preparing, and sharing of food; the kitchen; the hearth; and the implements used for all these activities and the associated community events and ceremonies offer inspiration for made or found donations to the auction.
We are in need of donations for this event from community members and local artists. If you are interested in helping us out, please call the Library at 575-581-4608 and let us know what you can donate. Food donations are also welcomed.
All items need to be brought into the Library by Thursday, December 1, 2011 by 5:30 p.m. Please contact the Library (ASAP) if you wish to help the Library.

Our 2nd Annual Fundraiser for Fall-2011 is simple, 100 People donating $100 and the Library makes $10,000. What is great about this year's fundraiser is that there will be a matching grant of $5,000 from the Helen & Wilton Webster Foundation.
The Helen & Wilton Webster Foundation granted us $40,000 back in 2003 to replace our old roof and to renovate the fiction room where the north wall had collapsed. We got another grant for $5,000 in 2010 to make our final installment for the land and building. We are very grateful to Alec and Claudia Webster for all that they have done for our Library. There are truly "Friends of the El Rito Public Library". Thank you Alec and Claudia!
